It includes tracking and $100 default insurance and delivers in 2–5 business days domestically. Do not reference "First-Class Package Service" anywhere in your listings or shop policies — that service name no longer exists. For fragile shadow boxes, framed prints, and glass elements, USPS Priority Mail provides faster transit, better handling perception, and included $100 insurance. Critical — Packaging Standard for Fragile Memorial Pieces
Shadow boxes and framed memorial prints require the box-in-box method as the minimum. Wrap the item individually in at least 3 inches of bubble wrap. Place in a snugly fitting inner box. L4 Digital printables (instant delivery, no shipping)
Memorial certificates, sympathy cards, Rainbow Bridge concept cards, and breed-specific prints delivered as PDF/PNG/ZIP via Etsy's built-in download system require no processing time and no carrier. Etsy delivers the file automatically on purchase confirmation. The only post-sale issues you own are: file quality (resolution, format correctness, download accessibility) and buyer navigation. This creates a critical disconnect: the buyer holds you responsible because they purchased from your Etsy shop, but your ability to intervene ends at order submission. Never include chirpy or celebratory packaging language for memorial items. No "Congrats on your purchase!" inserts, no balloons-and-confetti tissue paper, no "You're going to love it!" messaging. STEP 06
Review strategy and responding to grief-inflected feedback
Etsy automatically sends buyers a review request after delivery. You do not need to prompt them directly. The experience of opening a beautifully packaged memorial item — quiet tissue, a dignified thank-you card, no marketing noise — is the most effective review prompt available to you. Buyers who are genuinely moved by a grief-context purchase are highly motivated to leave reviews without being asked.
What Etsy prohibits regarding reviews
Offering any goods, services, or compensation — including discounts or coupons — in exchange for a review is classified as shilling and/or extortion under Etsy's seller policies, regardless of whether the offer is conditioned on a specific star rating. This includes: offering a discount in exchange for a positive review, sending a message that functions primarily as a review solicitation, or conditioning a goodwill gesture explicitly on review behavior. The FTC Consumer Reviews Rule (effective October 2024) also prohibits tying incentives to review sentiment, with penalties up to $53,000 per violation. Offering a discount on a future purchase as goodwill — entirely separately from any mention of reviews — is permitted.

Responding to a grief-inflected 1-star review
The hardest scenario in the pet memorial niche: a buyer leaves a 1-star review that is clearly processing grief rather than evaluating your product. "I can't stop crying. Nothing will bring my dog back." You did nothing wrong. The review still shows on your shop.
First, assess for removal eligibility. If the review does not qualify for removal, respond publicly. Keep it under 75 words. Do not defend the product. Do not dispute the rating. Do not ask them to change the review — that is prohibited.

Using the poem text commercially without a license from the verified copyright holder exposes you to DMCA takedown, and no effective counter-notice is available without that license. Use "Rainbow Bridge" as a keyword phrase — that is standard and safe. Do not reproduce the verse text on any product. Write original memorial sentiment copy instead.
2. Breed club and kennel club marks. The American Kennel Club, United Kennel Club, and individual breed clubs hold trademarks on their logos, seals, award marks, and specific imagery. Breed names (Golden Retriever, French Bulldog, German Shepherd) are freely usable. Club logos and marks are not. Source breed silhouettes from licensed stock art with explicit commercial and POD rights, or commission original illustrations.
3. Font foundry licenses. Fonts downloaded from free sites frequently carry personal-use-only licenses that do not cover Etsy commercial sales. A font used in a memorial product sold commercially requires a commercial license explicitly permitting commercial use on physical goods or POD.
